Create Your Own Picture Frame with Paper Decorations

We're excited to introduce you to a delightful and creative craft activity that you and your child can enjoy together at home: Making a DIY Picture Frame and Decorating with Coiled Colored Paper Flowers (or other shapes)! This project combines crafting and artistic expression, allowing children to create personalized picture frames adorned with vibrant paper decorations.

Activity Overview:

Objective: To create a unique picture frame using lollipop sticks or cardboard and decorate it with coiled colored paper flowers or other shapes.

Materials Needed:

  • Lollipop sticks or sturdy cardboard

  • Glue (craft glue or hot glue gun)

  • Scissors

  • Colored paper (for flowers or other shapes)

  • Markers, crayons, or colored pencils (optional for decorating)

  • Ribbon or string (optional for hanging)

Duration: Approximately 60-90 minutes, depending on the complexity of the designs and the child's pace.

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Workspace:

  • Set up a clean and spacious work area where you and your child can comfortably create the picture frames.

  • Lay out all the materials and tools within easy reach.

2. Create the Picture Frame:

  • If using lollipop sticks:

  • Arrange the lollipop sticks in a square or rectangular shape to form the outline of the picture frame.

  • Glue the sticks together at the corners to secure them in place.

If using cardboard:

  • Cut out a square or rectangular shape from the cardboard to serve as the backing for the picture frame.

  • Decorate the cardboard backing with markers, crayons, or colored pencils if desired.

3. Decorate the Frame:

  • Encourage your child to unleash their creativity and decorate the picture frame with various designs, patterns, or colors.

  • They can use markers, crayons, or colored pencils to add decorative elements directly onto the frame.

4. Make Coiled Paper Decorations:

  •  Cut strips of colored paper (about 1 inch wide) to create the coiled paper decorations.

  • Invite your child to roll the paper strips tightly into coils, securing the ends with glue to keep them in place.

  • Experiment with different colors and sizes to create a variety of coiled paper shapes, such as flowers, spirals, or geometric designs.

5. Attach Decorations to the Frame:

  • Once the coiled paper decorations are ready, use glue to attach them to the picture frame.

  • Encourage your child to arrange the decorations in any pattern or design they like, covering the entire frame or focusing on specific areas.

6. Final Touches:

  • Allow the glue to dry completely before handling the picture frame.

  • If desired, attach a ribbon or string to the back of the frame for hanging on the wall.

Tips for Success:

  • Encourage your child to experiment with different colors, shapes, and designs to create a one-of-a-kind picture frame.

  • Provide guidance and support as needed, but also allow your child to take the lead in decorating and assembling the frame.

  • Display the finished picture frame proudly, showcasing your child's creativity and craftsmanship.

We hope you and your child have a wonderful time creating DIY picture frames and decorating them with colorful paper decorations. It's a fantastic way to bond and express creativity together!
